Holiday Ceramic Tree Options

I think a few of you are aware of my beloved ceramic tree collection. These holiday goodies are my favorites to pull out every year. Several are original 1970's trees that my mom made back when this was a popular holiday pastime. And after breaking an old one, I learned that there are lots of new options available. I'm sharing my favorites below.

Ceramic Tree
When my parents decided to downsize in 2004, they got rid of a LOT of stuff. My brothers and I received the bulk of it. My mom gave me her collection of ceramic Christmas trees and I was delighted. I grew up enjoying their twinkling lights and was excited to have them in my own home. Now that both of my parents have passed away, this collection means a great deal more to me. I've had to replace a couple over the years and found that their crazy price tags on eBay were hard to stomach (up to $1,000!). But, I've found some newer (read: cheaper) reproductions on Amazon that blend perfectly with my oldies. I'm sharing them (and a few other ceramic tree finds) below.

Holiday Ceramic Tree Options

There's a reason I'm posting about these (usually Christmas only) ceramic tree options in October...because my friend and I stumbled onto Halloween ones recently and our obsession has overflowed into all of the holidays! I've included a couple of fall options and a year-round number in today's list. Because I can't get enough of this vintage classic.

Vintage Christmas Trees
Pictured above is my kitchen corner from about four or five years back...with two of my mom's original trees on the right hand side. A year or two after this photo, I had to bid one of these trees goodbye due to a bad break (it was just a weird one that couldn't be fixed). I started looking for a replacement at estate sales and on eBay and was really shocked at the pricing.

After sharing this with my ceramic-tree obsessed buddy, we were on a mission to find these at a reasonable price. Low and behold, Amazon carries some really great reproductions. Now, they're definitely not vintage, but they do blend in well enough with my existing trees that nobody questions me! My friend loves the cute little tree night lights we found too, so I've included one of those (along with some non-traditional numbers) below.

Vintage Ceramic Christmas Trees
Above is one of my favorite vignettes of my ceramic tree collection. Since my mom passed down her trees to me, thus starting my obsession, I tucked in a holiday photo of her and my dad with them. Some of the newer trees are now battery-operated. This is such a game-changer. I always had extension cords running under the couch and behind drapes to be able to properly light these babies up! The largest one was the first one my mom ever made. Sadly, its star cracked and wouldn't sit properly in its spot anymore. So, I glued on the pink ribbon and love it even more!

Ceramic Tree Reproductions

Below are all of the fun reproductions I've found via Amazon. A few are non-traditional (the Santa! the cactus!), but a lot are the classic trees. Hoping you enjoy these.

  1. Hands down my favorite one is the Candy Corn one! I’ve really been into Candy Corn this year.

  2. I made one when I was 12 at a ceramics class I took with my sister. When I was almost finished with it, they decided to change their rules so that nobody under 13 could attend classes. Well, Mom was not going to stand for that and needless to say, my tree got finished. I was given my Grandma's tree that's about 8" tall so I have two. The base on the one I made took a fall and broke so I've not yet decided how to handle that-if I put a lighted cord under it, there's no notch for it to go out the side so it will sit wonky.
I love the bow that you put on your tree, by the way. Good idea!

  3. I have a collection that consists of my Grandmother's tree, my Mother-in-law's tree, and my Grandmother-in-law's tree. I cherish them. I am also lucky enough to know someone who makes them new but from the vintage molds his mother used.

  4. I asked Santa last year for a Pink Ceramic Tree, I must of been good, because Santa brought it to me early so I could have it to decorate with!

  6. I have my grandmother's ceramic tree that my aunt made for her, probably in the late 60s. Instead of the Christmas lights, it had pegs from an old LiteBright. Quite a few of them were lost over the years, so I always positioned it in a corner and put the pegs in front. I will be looking on Amazon now to see about lights to replace the pegs. What a fun article and collection.

  7. Thanks for these; I have a big one that I use in my living room on my TV cabinet every year. I wanted to get a night light too. I think they are so cute. I pinned your page, so I could refer to it again, if need be. :-)

  9. I found a small tabletop Halloween themed ceramic tree for a dear friend with a Halloween birthday. After October 31, she turns the "jack o'lantern" top around so it just looks like a pumpkin for Thanksgiving. I also bought one that was red, white and blue for a friend who's favorite holiday is the 4th of July! P.S. I ordered them from www.lakeside.com
    Holiday trees are awesome.

  10. I have 1 I made while I was in the VA one year and it always has place of prominence. My kids argue about who is going to get it if something happens to me. I think it will go to my son who lives in travel trailer in our back yard.

  11. Oh, my goodness, I love these! My grandmother bought one for me back in the 70's, and I keep meaning to get it rewired or whatever it needs to work again. My daughter bought me one of the reproductions for my birthday a couple of years ago, because she knows how much I love them, but I had no idea they have them for other seasons! Thanks for sharing!

  12. My mother used to make these in ceramics class. She had a few around the house. When I was in college, she sent one to me! I still have it, and I've dragged it all over the country, still intact! I love it so much. I had forgotten about the white and gold ones until I saw the photo here, and now I remember my mother did one of those too! And wow!! Halloween! I'll have to go looking! Thank you for this awesome trip down memory lane. It is a bit interesting to think that something I've had most of my adult life is "vintage" rotfl!!!
