Originally, I was just creating the simple Laundry Symbols Chart for today. But, it looked lonely when I hung it in my own laundry room, so I added in the coordinating Premium Self Service design, too. Both of these printables are available with or without the florals. And they'll both look lovely in your laundry space, too.

Well, today's laundry room printables were completely inspired by this week's deep cleaning of my own laundry room. I rearranged things, took old stuff down, and thought I needed something a bit more laundry-related, decor wise. So, I put together the Laundry Symbols Chart (because we all need one of these handy laundry decoders, right?). But, the design desperately needed a companion print displayed with it, so the other design came about, too. Hope you enjoy these two free laundry room printables, available below.

Laundry Symbols Chart Printables

As you can see from above, there are several design options for today's printables. Plus, they're available in your favorite sizes and formats, too. I created the florals ones to coordinate in my own home, but they're pretty versatile and can fit into lots of decor styles.

And the above photo is how they look in my own laundry room. This space was just crying out for something along these lines.

This summer, I committed to a thorough deep clean of one space a week. And this past week, I kicked things off in the laundry room. After taking everything off the walls for a scrubbing, I realized I didn't want the same things back on the walls...so I sat down and created the laundry symbols chart design. But, when I went to hang it, it very much needed a friend. So, the other printable was put together and I called it good. They're perfect in the space to the right of the window in here.

Using these Laundry Printables

These designs come in the following sizes and formats:

8x10" JPEG
8x10" PDF
5x7" JPEG
5x7" PDF (prints with two designs per page for less paper waste)

The PDFs are perfect for at-home printing. The JPEGS can be uploaded to your favorite printing place to be printed like a photo or image.
When printing at home, be sure to use white, letter-sized cardstock (it's what my printables are designed to be printed onto). Everything looks better on cardstock. Grab your pack here on Amazon.

In my own laundry room, I used these fun magnetic poster hangers to display my laundry symbols print and its companion design. These are seriously so neat to use...and easy to change out (you can see how they work in the above photo).

I trim the prints using my tried and trusty Fiskar's Paper Trimmer that I mention quite a lot. You can grab the same one here on Amazon.

I purposefully printed out and displayed the 5x7" size to make sure it wasn't too small to read (pictured above). It worked perfectly (in person, it's very readable).

I displayed the 5x7" print (printed onto the white, letter-sized cardstock) on one of the wooden display blocks I grabbed here on Amazon.
And I used my favorite corner trimmer to make the corners nice and rounded (I really think it takes printables up a notch).
On the 5x7" PDF designs, I provide a small hairline around the entire design to make it easy to cut. You can cut using scissors or a paper trimmer like mine (pictured above).

Decoding a Laundry Care Label

While today's prints are meant for decorative purposes, they are quite functional, too, and can be used to decipher washing symbol information. A garment's fabric care label can be a bit overwhelming. While some laundry care symbols are self-explanatory, some, well, are not. My chart includes the basic symbols found on the majority of care label instructions...designed to help you wash clothes without worry.

What do the symbols mean?

open circle symbol: this particular circle means dry clean only

If there is an X over the circle, do NOT dry clean the item.
You may come across a variety of circles on a clothing label. While that open circle is meant for everyone to use, the other circles are the dry cleaner's instructions and all fall under the category of dry cleaning symbols. Different letters inside of the circles indicate which chemical or solvent the dry cleaner should use. A horizontal line (or multiple lines) under the circle guide the dry cleaner to which level of precaution to take with each garment.

tub symbol: the majority of the tub symbols indicate the settings to use on the washing machine
The tub with the hand inside means this item is designed for hand washing or to be put through the delicate cycle on the machine.
If there is an X over the tub, the item should not be washed.
The number of horizontal lines under the tub symbol indicates the amount of spinning and rinsing. No lines mean the garment can be washed on the normal cycle or normal setting. A single horizontal line indicates the spinning and rinsing should be reduced. Two lines indicate a mild wash, but normal spinning and rinsing.
A single dot or multiple dots in the tub indicate the temperature settings. The temperature setting is sometimes indicated with a number within the tub symbol.

triangle symbol: the triangle is the bleach symbol and indicates the amount and type of bleach to be used with this garment.

An X over the triangle means no bleach should be used.
An empty triangle means any type of bleach.
Diagonal lines indicate non-chlorine bleach.

square symbol: a square indicates dryer symbols

The envelope-looking square means an item should be hung for air drying.
Three vertical lines within the square are the dry symbol to indicate that a dripping wet garment should drip dry (no intense spinning).
A bar in the square means an item should dry flat.
Diagonal lines in the upper left corner of the square indicate that items should dry in the shade.
An X over the square is the international standard for "do not dry".

iron symbol: the iron icon gives guidelines on ironing and steaming

Different dots within the iron icon means the level of heat: from low heat (one dot) to high heat (three dots).
The steam lines with an X under the iron symbol mean no steam should be used.
