Free Embroidery Patterns for Christmas

This post for Free Embroidery Patterns contains affiliate links. I make a small portion when these links are used, at no additional cost to you.

I have three free embroidery patterns for you today...this tree design in three separate hoop sizes (they'd be darling displayed together). I also have a really fun magnifying lamp giveaway...it's perfect for all of your crafting, sewing, and embroidery work.

Grab these free embroidery patterns below.

Free Embroidery Patterns
This hoop art has only two simple stitches! It uses a backstitch and a French knot...in a simple repetitive pattern that is perfect for embroidery beginners (or anyone!). Grab all three of these free embroidery patterns below.

Free Embroidery Patterns for Christmas

The holiday crafting season is in full swing, y'all! I made this little Christmas tree embroidery pattern in a manner that is easy to repeat...wouldn't it be fun to have a wall full of these cute trees? And you can fill them with ornaments or just leave them plain. They're easy to make your own.

Cute Christmas Hoop Art
Above is a close up of this hoop. I actually added the star on as a last minute addition. I just free handed it with my pen and, again, used a backstitch. I also started this with the brown tree line in the center of the hoop. Then each branch went over the line, stitch wise. After the tree was in place, I randomly added a variety of colors of French knots everywhere for a little fun.

Embroidery Lamp
AND, this post is actually a giveaway. My friends at Brightech are giving away an exact duplicate of my favorite light (pictured above) to one of my readers today. This is the LightView XL Magnifying Glass Lamp with Rolling Stand. It makes it so easy to do embroidery and intricate craft work. I wheel it all over the place, too. The swivel arm is fantastic, too. If I don't need the light, I can simply use the magnifier on its own. Enter to win by leaving a comment on this post telling me your favorite Magnifier Lamp over on the Brightech site here. More information is available at the end of this post.

Supplies for Your Hoop Art

  • Download the free embroidery patterns (in sizes 4", 6", and 8" hoops) here or below.
  • white fabric (mine has a small dot pattern that looks like snow), grab enough for the size of hoop you use
  • wooden hoop(s)- I purchase mine on Amazon for a better price than in most craft stores (I do buy more than one at a time, though):
  • DMC Embroidery Floss (I only showed the green and brown in my image above, but if you want to add in the colorful ornaments, consider this DMC Embroidery Assortment pack here, which includes the brown and green, too).
  • embroidery needles (I like the DMC brand here)
  • embroidery floss bobbins (optional, but I like to keep my floss tidy in my bag since my hoops tend to be done on the run while waiting on my kiddos!)
  • water soluble pen (you guys know I love the FriXion ones...they erase with the steam of my iron!)
  • cute embroidery scissors (cuteness is a must, right?)
  • I also use an adorable needle minder to keep my needle handy. Mine is from Bev over at Flamingo Toes.

Create Your Hoop Art:

Christmas Hoop

  • Iron your fabric and trace your design onto it (I like to use a light table, but there are lots of methods for this).
  • Fit your fabric into your hoop.
  • Start stitching!
    • The tree and star are made up of simple backstitch lines, just over and over (even the trunk).
    • The ornaments are French knots. French knots used to be my nemesis, but I have really been practicing them and am happy with how these turned out.
    • I just placed the ornaments randomly all over.
    • I mentioned this earlier, but the star was just freehanded with my pen at the last minute. Then I used a backstitch over it.

Fun Christmas Hoop Art
This is optional, but I hot-glued some fun red pom pom trim around the outside of the finished hoop...for some extra cuteness.

Craft Light
And, don't forget to enter to win your own LightView XL Magnifying Glass Lamp with Rolling Stand. Enter to win by leaving a comment on this post telling me your favorite Magnifier Lamp over on the Brightech site here. This light would make a fantastic gift for your favorite crafter.

Magnifying Craft Lamp
I hope you win this awesome light! I really have enjoyed mine. We'll be drawing in a week and emailing the winner. Must reside in the continental US. Brightech will ship the light directly to the winner.

  4. This lamp looks like it might be the exact thing I need for my Cross-stitch that I would like to start doing again. My eyes are not what they used to be. I also like to do other crafts in different areas of the house or garage. One of those lamps just might be on my Christmas list.

  5. I've never owned a Magnifier lamp but would love to have one. I have thought about getting my mother one for Christmas she is 81 and still sews and does cross stitch. She taught me to sew, cross stitch, crochet, quilt etc. She does not always use patterns and I think that is so awesome. Good luck to all who are entered.

  7. I would like the lightview XL with the rolling base to do hand embroidery because it would be helpful to roll instead of lifting it off the floor. I'm going to make the xmas tree sampler because I enjoy the simple design and colors. Thanks for the giveaway.

  9. I like the rolling base LED floor light/magnifier. I like the idea of the light being mobile. I'm in the early stages of dry macular degeneration, so I constantly deal with too much lught/not enough light issues when I read or do other close-up work in the evenings. I think this product would certainly make those activities easier for me to enjoy.

  40. I'm so green with envy!! I have an Otlite (I think that's the brand, I got it from JoAnn's). I paid a pretty penny for it even on really good sale. I have never liked it, the magnifying glass is separate from the light which makes it hard to adjust to get the most use. It it stationery and very heavy and awkward, hence the reason it lives in the closet. Yours looks like an absolute dream come true!
