Free Scripture Printables for a Jesse Tree
Jesse Trees are based on Isaiah 11:1-4:
"A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him-- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD-- and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth."
How Does a Jesse Tree Work?
After a Jesse Tree ornament exchange (see how that works in yesterday's post HERE), every party-goer brings home 25 unique ornaments for their family to use throughout the Advent season (December 1-25). They also bring home a scripture sheet, scripture cards (like these below), or a book of the scriptures that correlate with the 25 ornaments and 25 days.
Not attending a Jesse Tree Exchange? No problem. You can actually purchase Jesse Tree Ornaments right here on Amazon (this can save you a lot of work!).
Once Advent begins, families can use their ornaments every day on their own Jesse Tree. Personally, my family uses a smaller, inexpensive fake tree as our Jesse Tree. It's situated in our kitchen, since we have Jesse Tree time with our dinner. On day one, we find the day one ornament and read its assigned scripture as the ornament is placed on the tree. Then we repeat daily. The scriptures are on these scripture printables below...they correlate with the ornaments (or, I have a way to use them as ornaments, themselves below).
The actual ornaments are always a favorite part of a Jesse Tree. See all of my ornaments HERE.
Using these Scripture Printables with a Jesse Tree
- You can download these scripture printables here or below.
- There is really no rhyme or reason here...make these what you want them to be. They're a wonderful tool for the Advent season. And they're awesome to get your family reading from the Bible together every day as you approach the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
- If you're using these with a Jesse Tree, read them on the days they're numbered (December 1st=Day 1, etc.). And hang the corresponding ornament (see the ornaments here) on the same day you're reading its scripture.
- I specifically didn't include the scriptures on these cards...just the reference to each verse. It's fun to get your family reading from the Bible during this daily Advent activity, in your preferred translation.
- Print these scripture printables onto white cardstock to keep them nice and sturdy (I get the best priced cardstock HERE on Amazon).
- Cut out each card (they print three to a page). Make quick work of this with a paper cutter...especially if you're cutting out many of these to host your own Jesse Tree Ornament Exchange. I love my paper trimmer (pictured above). I get super straight cuts with minimal effort. Grab this same one HERE on Amazon.
- Store your cut out scripture printables with your ornaments, so they're easy to access.
Download these Scripture Printables:
- Download these scripture printables here (they are on nine pages).
- If the above link doesn't work for you, try this alternate (Dropbox) one here.
No Ornaments? No Problem.
These cards are small enough to serve as ornaments, themselves. It would be a neat way to get your feet wet with the Jesse Tree tradition before committing to the ornaments. Just use mini clothespins to clip them to your tree (pictured above).
But, if you want to check out all of my actual ornaments (pictured below), find them all here. And, if you'd like to throw your own Jesse Tree Exchange, find information for that here.
This is such a meaningful tradition for our family that we've used for years. I hope this series and the Jesse Tree concept blesses you and yours.

Not sure how to Print a Printable?
See my complete video tutorial below covering how to print your printables on either a Mac or a PC...on your home printer or at your local print shop.
Will the verses on your printables match up to the images on ornaments from any set on Amazon? Meaning, are the verses the same no matter which Jesse Tree kit I buy?
ReplyDeleteHi there! Thanks for stopping by! That is a great question. From what I have seen on Pinterest and other sources, Jesse trees can vary...meaning the scriptures and ornaments. The ornaments can be very subjective though, so I think you would be fine to use these scriptures with ornaments ordered online! <3
