I feature my dad a lot on this blog...but usually he's holding a nail gun or cutting a board.
Today, I'm chatting about our recent trip to Brownwood...and what fun I had shopping with my dad.
This guy. I kind of adore him, y'all. We are so alike. He gets me and I get him. As I mentioned in a previous post, my mother's health isn't always the best these days, and her number one caregiver is my dad. He has taken on a lot of new things around the house and never seems to stop. Sometimes, I like to get him out of their house for a bit, so he can just relax and chat. We thought it would be fun to head to Brownwood for the day...which is a place that has some fun memories for us from my college days. We also had some baking plans, too. Well...I do the baking. He makes a great taste tester. It's all fair since he does a lot of my project building...and I do the photo taking. See how that works out? Check out our fun day below.
Brownwood sits halfway between Austin and Abilene. I grew up in Austin and then headed off to college in Abilene in 1996. Since Brownwood was a good halfway point, we often met there for lunch or whatever (or for him to bring me my favorite doughnuts from Round Rock...but that's a different post entirely).
We actually went this time because I was needing a specific item from Kroger Grocery Store. The two nearest Krogers are either in Brownwood or College Station. As I mentioned above, we're Austinites...and we love the Longhorns. So, Brownwood it was (wink!). I have to say that this was quite possibly the most adorable little grocery store ever...it was an older store, but gosh, the friendliness (and cleanliness) were top notch. Do you have a Kroger near you? You can click here to find out.
We headed straight for the baking aisle. I was looking for Martha White® Baking mixes.
*Someone* spotted the Chocolate Chip Muffin variety.
Kroger carries the largest variety of Martha White® Baking Mixes I've ever seen! And check it out, 10 for $10. Can't beat that with a stick. I had to buy a truckload of these to mix up for our school's big carnival this weekend...but I wasn't just keeping them as muffins. I can't wait to show you the yumminess that resulted from this.
And, let's talk about the fact that I'm holding an Apple Cider Muffin mix, y'all. I mean...can there be anything more yummy?
After we left the baking aisle, we headed to produce...my dad is an apple-eater.
He couldn't help himself.
He specifically says, "Kristi, look at how well they laid those apples...they're all facing the same way! Be sure to grab a photo of that, too. You'll want that." Early on in our day, dad became the photography director. Isn't he adorable, y'all?
Ready to roll. I have no idea how all of those Chocolate Chip mixes got into the buggy?
Checkout was easy breezy and they even gave me my own Kroger Plus Shopper's card on the spot...no lengthy forms to fill out or anything. This resulted in me running back down an aisle to grab pumpkin coffee that was on sale. It is my weakness.
Our checker was super friendly and went out of her way to explain the shopper's card and how I could upload their coupons to it. They even offered to take our buggy full of groceries to our car...here in the big city, they don't do that at our grocery stores.
And here's what we made! Pop back by on Friday to grab the recipe for this Brown Sugar Glazed Sweet Potato Loaf. It is ridiculously yummy. And it was so easy since it started with a couple of bags of the Martha White® Baking Mixes. I loved the great variety and how easy they were to grab at Kroger. This loaf makes a delicious breakfast or dessert. And it's perfect this time of the year.
