My Living Room Mini Makeover is just in time for the busy entertaining season.
See how it came together below.
While I always host Thanksgiving for my large, extended family every year, this year has a fun, extra celebration we’re throwing in. My dad is turning the big EIGHT-OHHHHH before the end of the year and we plan to put together a special dinner for him here at our house. The bulk of family get togethers often default to my house, but I always enjoy the preparation that leads up to these things. My husband laughs because entertaining equals another excuse to redecorate here and there...of course it does, right? Check out how I’m starting to get things spruced up in the living room below.
While having an eclectic style can sometimes be a visual-overload, I try to keep things all tied together as best I can. Here is one of my favorite little made-over spots: the couch. To keep that eclectic vibe, I found these fun decorative pillows over at my local Big Lots store. Mixing all the patterns keeps my overall look consistent, but I stuck to my home’s red and aqua. These couches are probably way too dark for my floors, but lighter ones are on my “one day” list. These function very well and are in great shape, so I’m really not in the market yet. I tried to break up the monotony of the brown with the blanket on the couch, the rug on the floor, and the funky pillows in graphic patterns.
I loved the selection of decorative pillows over at Big Lots, y’all. I mean...wow. So many choices and all of them were super budget friendly. This made buying plenty for both my couch and loveseat not so spendy. I even had help from an employee who grabbed me a few off that tippy-top shelf. Big Lots has a large furniture selection, too. I was able to play around in the store on a couch that was the same color as mine to get the mix-matched look I was going for. Looking through the great furniture selection was also fun...I added a few things to my wish list.
Our previous “look” was getting pretty tired, y’all (yawwwwwwn). Those old pillows had seen their day (and lost all of their fun aqua-ness!). And good grief...I’m pretty sure I’m the only one in this house who knows how to fold the throw (apparently).
Out with the old and in with the...FUN! Getting new pillows for the couch gives it an entirely new look and feel...it feels like a new sofa altogether. I played around with the colors to get them in the order I wanted...and then repeated over on the loveseat, as well.
These pillows are a really nice quality. The aqua ones were bundled in sets of two for a fabulously budget-friendly buy. I’m loving how the different textures work together, too. And that adorable little stripey pillow is my fave...he pulls all of the colors together for a (somewhat) cohesive look. Somewhat...I mean, I still have to be me, right? And cohesive isn’t always apart of my package. I had an art teacher once tell me he found me to be ‘consistently inconsistent’...and he actually meant it as a compliment. Ever since then, it’s been my mantra.
If you prefer to have all of your pillows the exact same size, here’s another fun look. I just removed the short stripey one and did a simple pattern with the others.
I also added some fun little touches all around the room, too. I about died when I saw this BIG mason jar candle piece, also at Big Lots. I mean...y’all. Isn’t it awesome?!? And, the cool thing is that it’s actually an LED candle in there. So, it’s safe to leave on, even when smaller kiddos are coming to my house. I love the glow of it. I’m thinking about going back and getting a few more of these for my back porch table. Here in Texas, we’re actually able to use our outdoor areas most of the year (honestly, except summer, since it’s so brutal). These would be darling up and down the center of the table out there. I grabbed the little owl at Big Lots, too...it’s also in the candle section. It lights up with a beautiful candle glow.
The seasonal decor and candle aisle is my fave at Big Lots...such a great variety and so many goodies to choose from.
I gave the other side of the living room a few touch ups, too. I replaced our ten-year old blinds with these warmer bamboo roll-up blinds from Big Lots. I love the texture and warmth it adds. Our blinds had also started the shift from their original almond color to a yellowish ick...so it was time. I do love the layered look of the bamboo blinds under my drapery panels, too. Big Lots had a lot of great styles to choose from in the window covering area.
So glad these oldies are gone...they were a pain to clean, too!
