Five Home Decor Tips to Beat The Winter Blues from Heather

Heather here from Southern State of Mind
This winter has been a cold one, even for us down here in Atlanta.

I go through the same thing every year.

As summer draws to an end, I can't wait until fall.
And then when the leaves begin to change,
I can't wait until the holidays.

Then, it's January. Ugh.
Then February. Blah.
Spring, spring, spring- where are you?
Can I get an amen?

Well, the groundhog has spoken and winter isn't going anywhere soon, so I thought I'd share 5 ways I beat the winter blues in my home>>>

1. Add a Pop of Color

It's ah-maz-ing what a little color will do to your room, and your spirits! Pattern helps too! Here I left my decorating comfort zone behind and added a pop of color with bold pink throw pillows.
Take that Winter Blues!

2. Accessorize With Summer Memories
Did you go to the beach this summer? Have an amazing vacation memento? Why not pull it out to remind you of those warmer days? Here I piled some driftwood found on our beach walks in a glass vase.
I can almost hear the waves crashing!

3. Fresh Flowers
I know it might feel like a splurge or indulgent.
But I am giving you permission.
Go on sister. Grab that grocery store bouquet. You deserve it.
These gladiolas were less than $5 and paired with a tall vase and oysters found at the beach, they make a huge impact on the happiness factor.
And helps make me a little less annoyed that I haven't seen the sun in 6 days.

4. Have a Purge Party

Stuck inside? Why wait for spring for a little cleaning? Set a goal (to fill a box or a trash bag) and set a timer (20 minutes). Go from room to room and closet to closet. Now purge. Declutter. I recently did this and had a trunk full of stuff to donate within minutes. Are there sweaters in your closet that you haven't worn yet this winter? GONE. Are there piles of read magazines by your bed? GOODBYE. It feels so great to be rid of the stuff.
Seriously.
Do this.
Now.

5. Change Your Scenery
No need to venture out into cold temperatures to get a change of scenery. Just do some house tweaking using what you have, you will be amazed at the results! Gather similar items to make a new collection. Mix up your artwork and hang it in unexpected places. Layer mirrors on your mantel. Rearrange your furniture. Just try it. If you don't like it, no harm done!
No more cabin fever here!

I hope these simple tips help get your through these next few weeks until spring decides to show up! Until then, stay warm.
And have another cup of hot chocolate.
Because that always seems to help, too. :)

Bundle up- xoxo,

Heather
