How to Make a DIY Supply Board

A simple supply board will help keep a workspace neat and tidy.

With just a few items used, this is an easy half day project.

I'm going to be completely honest and let you know up front that this project was a complete accident. It was the result of a project fail I had over the summer. Here's a {camera phone quality} photo of the said project:

While not horrible...it just was off. I messed with it for a few days. Texted friends for their opinions. And then left it there for two months until I just couldn't look at it anymore. This and the fact that the other window on the left side of that fireplace still had my old striped red panel on it. My mom had asked me {no less than a dozen times} what in the world I was thinking having two different window treatments in my living room. It was a result of laziness and lack of want-to. But I finally broke down and ordered solid red panels from Target and closed the case on this {see the new panels here}. Thankfully, I saved the board.

I repurposed it to hold supplies above my homework/craft station in the new office area that I showed you last week here. It's working out perfectly!

I started with a 1x6 board and cut it to the length I needed. I sanded it and then was ready to go. I measured where I wanted my hooks...evenly spacing them to the length of the board.

Then I predrilled my holes for my hooks, matching the drill bit size to the screw end of the cup hook. 

I used a fun refinishing method for these boards. I wrote a tutorial on it here.  

I could only find cup hooks in brass or white. So I sprayed mine with my "ORB" paint. And then followed with a clear coat sealer.  

I let them dry overnight and then screwed them into the predrilled holes. Having the holes predrilled really made this process easier.  

I did have a little oops when I hurried to get one of the last ones in. It freaked me out because I couldn't pull it out with any "garage tools". Had to pull out the make-up bag and twist the tweezers {while simultaneously squeezing them} about a hundred times to get the broken screw out. Serious celebration occurred when I got that sucker out. 

So after figuring out how to reuse these boards, we found our wall studs and screwed them in.  

I found some buckets at the Target Dollar Spot to hold various items {sometimes I spend more in the Dollar Spot than the rest of the store. True story}. I may make some labels for these buckets...per the request of my younger son: "Mom, these buckets need words on them. We can't see what's in half of them". Ohhhhh-kay.  

We are seriously LOVING having a homework station in my office...so much more functional for us. I do plan to paint a couple of metal folding chairs in a fun color to use here.
