DIY Graduation Gift

My niece just graduated from high school and is headed to Texas Tech in the fall. Her graduation party is this weekend with my whole family {it's going to be country comin' to town, people...that's how we roll}. I wanted to give her something that she could use at school...along with a little spending money {or laundry money} as well.

I bought a standard 8x10 frame and then a matte to put inside it. I wanted TTU colors, but of course, couldn't find them. I painted the matte I bought red with simple acrylic paint.

I used a fresh pencil eraser to give the frame black polka dots. At this point, my five-year-old walked in and asked if Kayla was having a ladybug party. Oh well...it still gets both TTU colors in there!

Then I used some stickers in a collegiate font to add her name and college to the matte. Boy, that military poster I used for painting is super distracting here. Oops.

I then spaced out the dollar bills in an even fashion and covered them with the back of the frame, carefully flipping and putting inside the frame.

I just made a simple card and tied it with some tulle.
Happy Graduation, Kayla! Best of Luck at Tech, Girlie!

  1. How cute is this! I'm sure she'll love it! I gave out several unique money gifts to my graduates too. Also thanks so much for featuring my beach wedding flip flops!
