This Chocolate Milk Bread recipe is absolutely to die for!
My family devoured it in one sitting. Be sure to make a loaf or two and enjoy with a tall glass of chocolate milk with it, of course! ;)
My kids love being in the kitchen with me...my youngest helped me with the recipe. I'll be honest, though, it was more of a taste-testing job on his part (he loves to take one for the team, y'all...ha)! This bread is a cross between a cake, a loaf bread, and a delicious chocolate chip cookie. The large amount of dark chocolate chips in the recipe create pockets of creamy chocolate throughout the entire bread. You have GOT to try this one...it freezes well, too (perfect to have on hand when company comes).
We used TruMoo Calcium Plus low-fat milk in this recipe. It has 50% more calcium than regular low-fat milk with the same great (chocolatey!) TruMoo taste. My kids love TruMoo...they have it with their breakfast every morning. It's the perfect way to keep them smiling and keep their bones strong. TruMoo Calcium Plus has eight essential nutrients, including an extra boost of calcium.
This bread makes the perfect breakfast accompaniment...or dessert (with strawberries and whipped cream...even better!). But be warned...it will not last long. The chocolate milk in it adds so much creamy richness. My people devoured it...I was kind of bummed I only had one piece. :(
Adding in the dry ingredients on their own with a wooden spoon helps to not have over-beaten bread with a less than desirable texture in the end. It's also a good idea to sift your dry ingredients together so they're smooth. My mom is hilarious about her sifting...she grew up in the 40s when everything was sifted. It was for a completely different reason back then, though...to make sure there weren't any bugs in the flours and sugars (gah!). I think her methods kind of rubbed off on me, because I tend to sift everything, as well. But I feel like the texture turns out so much better.
This bread is very "bubbly", so I also like to smooth it out on top before throwing in the oven.
Chocolate Milk Bread Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 cup pumpkin puree (can use canned)
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup TruMoo Calcium Plus low-fat milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a loaf pan with nonstick baking spray (or grease and flour)
Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl and set aside.
Cream together butter and sugars in a large bowl. Add in pumpkin, eggs, and TruMoo Calcium Plus low-fat milk and mix together thoroughly. Add flour mixture to butter mixture and gently mix with wooden spoon. Add in vanilla. Fold in dark chocolate chips. Mix just until incorporated. Pour into prepared loaf pan...spreading smooth on top.
Bake for 50-60 minutes, checking for doneness.

This bread looks so yummy especially for chocolate lovers. I read your blog all the time and love it. One thing though - the blue writing on the white is so hard to read. It may just be my old eyes. Have a great day!
