I have tinkered with this Triple Layer Chocolate Pie several times over the last couple of years. Originally, it had a hard chocolate bottom...filled with dark chocolate and cream. But, when you pulled it out of the fridge, the chocolate was a bit tough to break through. And if you let it sit out too long, the filling would get a bit too soft. So I ditched the hard chocolate and went with good old fashioned Oreos and butter for the crust...because what's better than that?
It's a super simple chocolate pie. But, I like a few of those on the menu. And come on...chocolate pudding, Oreos, butter, and whipped cream? It's kind of comfort pie, if that could be a thing (and let's face it....it should be a thing).
Ingredients:
For the crust:
- 25 Oreo Cookies
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1 stick salted butter, melted
For the filling:
- 2 cups milk, very cold
- 2 packages Jello Instant Chocolate Pudding and Pie Filling, 4 servings per box
- 1 {16 ounce} tub frozen whipped topping, thawed
- 1 dark chocolate candy bar {place in refrigerator until ready to use}
Directions:
For the crust:
Preheat oven to 350. Pulse Oreo cookies and brown sugar in a food processor until you have crumbs. While continuing to pulse, slowly pour in your butter. Stop and scrape down the sides of the bowl. Pulse again until everything is mixed. Press mixture into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie plate. Refrigerate for 10 minutes. Bake for 10 minutes. Let cool completely before adding your filling.
For the filling:
Pour milk into a large bowl and sprinkle with both boxes of pudding mix. Beat the pudding for a minute, until thick. Add a little over half of the pudding to the bottom of the pie crust. Add half of the whipped topping to the remaining pudding mixture in the bowl. Mix completely. Add the mixture as the next layer in the pie. Top with the remaining whipped topping.
Using a vegetable peeler, make chocolate shavings with the candy bar and add to the top of the pie. {If you prefer chocolate curls, do not refrigerate your candy bar.}
