Hi everyone, this is Rita from Pink Polka Dot Creations and I am so happy to be here today! I have a fun project for you today to help celebrate these last warm (hot) days of summer! Nothing speaks summer to me more than big bright yellow sunflowers, so I wanted to do a project with these bright cheery flowers as the main focus.
I know that a lot of you have seen these cute burlap wreaths and were wondering how to make them, so here is a tutorial on how to make one of these little darlings>>>
I know that a lot of you have seen these cute burlap wreaths and were wondering how to make them, so here is a tutorial on how to make one of these little darlings>>>
1.Gather up your supplies. I used a grapevine wreath, but you could also use a wire wreath. You can find burlap in a roll at your favorite craft store. I wanted sunflowers on this wreath, but of course you can use any flowers, leaves, birdhouses, pumpkins or any other embellishments that you want to include on your wreath! I used 5.5" wide burlap and I added white ribbon and tulle into the wreath before adding the flowers. You will also need floral wire.
2. Leave a 4-5 inch tail on your burlap and start by gathering your burlap between your fingers and twisting a piece of floral wire around it.
3. Make a loop with the burlap and wire it to your wreath.
4.Continue twisting and making loops and wiring them to your wreaths. Make some of the loops larger than others and twist them to fill in all the spaces.
5. Be sure to take the burlap under the wreath every so often, so as to cover the wreath itself. Wire to the wreath as needed. Continue all the way around the wreath, or you can do as I did and go about 2/3 of the way around. I found that wiring the burlap was the best way to secure it. I tried hot glue, but it just did not hold it in place good enough.
Next you will want to insert loops of ribbon and tulle into the burlap. I just hot glued them in place. Hot glue your flowers and any other embellishments you want to use.
I found this fun little birdhouse that I knew I wanted to use. I added the flowers inside the birdhouse and I had to wire it to the wreath because of the weight.
I made this wreath to go on my chalkboard door that I have out in my yard. I love how bright and cheery it is and how it greets me every time I arrive back home!
So are you ready to make a fun burlap wreath? I think that these would be beautiful in a fall wreath with bright fall colors to go with the burlap! I think I see another project in the works!
